Stories in/relation: A Podcast for Educators by Educators

A complimentary podcast to the in/relation Project

Stories in/relation is a monthly podcast for educators wanting to bring Indigenous contexts and topics into their curricula but are not sure where or how to begin. Created by Janey Lew, Senior Educational Consultant with CTLT Indigenous Initiatives and Samantha Nock, Educational Consultant, Campus and Classroom Climate, CTLT Indigenous Initiatives, Stories in/relation sits down with UBC faculty, staff, and students and asks them how they are navigating indigenizing and decolonizing their teaching and learning practices.

Goal 4 of the 2020 UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan calls for the UBC Teaching and Learning community to “include Indigenous ways of knowing, culture, histories, experiences, and worldviews in curriculum.” Knowing where and how to start this work in a good way can feel overwhelming when you are a new learner to Indigenous topics and contexts yourself.

in/relation is an educational resource for instructors, staff, and students at UBC who are interested in exploring Indigenous histories and contexts with others who are new to these topics and are non-experts on Indigenous topics themselves. Within in/relation you will find facilitation tools and support to initiate learning conversations as well as sample learning modules and frameworks for organizing the learning.

Ready to join the conversation? Sign up below to receive each monthly episode right to your inbox, starting with our premiere episode, The Story So Far. Listen as Sam interviews Janey to learn more about the origins of in/relation and dive into a discussion about positionally and getting started. Following Sam and Janey, you will hear a beautiful conversation between Janey and Jola Lekich, Associate Director, APSC Professional Masters Degree, who has been supporting and integrating in/relation into her work since the early days of the project.
